Abstract
Abstracto1.Antisera were prepared in rabbits against purified human serum α2-macroglobulin (α2-M) monitored biologically during purification by its ability to inhibit haemagglutination of influenza virus.2.Sera from 65 representative species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals were examined by immunoelectrophoresis for cross-reactivity to α2-M.3.Lines of precipitate in the α2-M position were confined to the mammals.4.Cross-reactivity was observed in the following Orders—Marsupiala (0/3), Insectivora (0/2), Edentata (0/1), Pholidota (1/1), Primates (8/8), Rodentia (1/4), Lagomorpha (0/1), Carnivora (3/17), Hyracoidea (0/1), Proboscidae (0/1), Perissodactyla (4/4) and Artiodactyla (12/13).
